medicina collettiva

CONVERSION WITH JOKOTIFA ALAYE| holding the mourning spaces.
1

Hello there friends, mia famiglia, those who are still here, looking for the goodness in this wild life. Here for you, and here for sharing the collective medicine, always.

It’s my honor and pleasure to offer up a beautiful conversation I had with my friend Jokotifa a couple weeks ago, just days before all the holy day stuff went down.

I’m finally getting it up and sending it out to the masses. I typically save the medicina collettiva conversations for paid only subscribers, but hey, feeling you all deeply, so here we are.

Jokotifa reached out to me… I don’t know, probably a year ago. Time is such a dragfly, a river, a spiral for me. And we have been meaning to connect and converse and record for a while. Since that time and now, though, I have been following her content, her videos, her wisdom on IG, and just so so grateful for it.

Her medicine for living and dying, her real life tangible work with the dead and those grieving the dead, comes through so potently. To be honest, her IG has been a saving grace for me some days— she has real talk, simple talk, talk that lands just right.

So without much more, please enjoy the convo! I know I did.

A little about Jokotifa:

Jokotifa Alaye is a life-long student of death and dying. With over 25 years of experience as a death care professional, she felt called to do more than participate in the traditional funeral home model and has created Mourning Space to fill the gaps in education and support that society requires for healthy grieving.

It is Jokotifa’s goal to build a community of empowered grievers that intend to save the world by living well and dying better, and she is passionate about sharing information that might encourage all of us to approach the end of a life and beyond with less fear and more wonder. She is a licensed funeral professional in the state of California and a NEDA certified end-of-life doula with a focus on grief.

She is grateful to claim both her Calabrese heritage as well as her African roots, but currently lives in Redding, California, under the loving protection of Mt. Shasta.

She can be found online on IG @mourningspace and at www.MourningSpace.com

See you soon. Just a note, if you want a small, intimate community, I just started one on my Substack threads for paid subscribers — I post daily “5 things” to help us all get some words out together. Some days I will give more prompts. But always there is a container to be held, heard, creative. Come along!
