The portal, meaning the 12 days of Christmas which for me, besides solstice, as the most potent days of the year. These days run from 12/25 until the Epiphany , on January 6th.

Every year I have a practice of some kind. Whether it’s a morning walk. A candle lighting. A daily offering to my ancestral altar. Or just meditating on one thing that I know I need to pay attention to one each of these portal days. Sometimes it’s just a remembering to drink one glass of water as soon as I wake up. The point is, I observe these days. They are holy.

These are the days of Epiphany so — I wait for the epiphanies.

I believe they are right there — right here — and we are crossing a threshold. Well, 12 of them. And each one has a gift of wisdom for us.

The word epiphany, traced back to the Greeks, means reveal.

So this year, one of my practices is writing to you. I’ll listen, and I’ll wait. And open up for something to be revealed. And I will write, a small bit, every day, as a practice and also gift to you during these portal days.

Maybe to inspire you to sit quietly yourself, to give yourself the space and time, before the sun rises, after the kids are asleep, in the middle hours of the day when you really need to tend to yourself and your systems — to sit. Light a candle. Pull a card. Or just look to the sky. May you need a few moments to just close your eyes. Consider what this year may mean to you. What are your needs? What do you hope for? What places do you seek expansion? What must begin to heal?
