To leave or not to leave.
To give Them what they want (our attention and fas-food content) or to tell them to fuck off.
To grapple with who we really are on there: a cash farm for making money.
To sit with what else we are on there: resources and community and information for many people. Art. Music. Nature. Healing. Philosophy.
To remember that we can bring the relationship and the art into anything we do. Anything. Even Instagram.
To go slow and pay attention to what we really want to share.
To ask ourselves: why are we on there?
To wonder if the 12 second reel or tiktok game just to get followers is degrading? Or a good business move? Or does nothing for our businesses at all.
To have values that align with deepening connections, making art, and making people more awake, not zombies, not dumber, not addicted to their phones.
To have boundaries.
To be in ritual and relationship with the app/devise/whatever it is.
All of this and more in an up and coming series I am calling Rebel Rebel because it came through to me on the day David Bowie was born and because no matter what, he was always ART. Making it, being it, living it. SPREADING IT.
That is what I want. That is the relationship I want with everything, to be honest. Artful. Questioning. Wondering. Storytelling. Challanging. Enlivening. Sexy. Provocative. Real. Intelligent. Creative.
I have been on an Instagram break for like a week and the clarity is like glass shattering shit, folks. The time on my hands is … wow. I actually started a second book. Which I thought I had no time for. But the scroll….. was eating my minutes.
REBEL REBEL includes some recordings, some write-in PDFS with prompts for you to play around with your own curiosities and artful presence-ing and… well boundaries in this relationship we have with social media. It’s space I am making to go slower and to consider what we are doing on there— and it is for paid subscribers only. If you have not joined the paid version of this substack, consider doing so! You will get this series, a tarot series, and more to come. You can subscribe with the button below for $5 a month.
And in the words of the great Bowie:
“Don’t you love the Oxford Dictionary? When I first read it, I thought it was a really really long poem about everything.”
― David Bowie
I feel like this is what I would love the instagram scroll to feel like. Join me?

Yes yes yes! I’ve been off IG for almost 3 months; it started as a little break and in the meantime I’ve been unwell, creative, and thoughtful in turns - and haven’t felt the rush or desire to go back. It does give you a helluva lot more space to substack 😂 But I also do miss seeing what the people I care about are up to, and just the ease of being able to update everyone at once hahah
Yesssssss
