Hi friends,
Here is an audio conversation between myself and Lisa Fazio of therootcircle - a dear friend, co-creator, and part of my village, one I barely had to create. Our ancestors brought us together, there is no doubt, because it all was so easy, and felt like it has been lifetimes of friendship. And a huge sparkle (or firecracker) of magic over here in the North Woods, comes from her. She’s a witch, an herbalist, a nonna, and a sexy-ass Libra, and I love her.
I invited her to have this convo on record (her and I have been having versions of it without recording) to share with you all.
As I entered back on Turtle Island — land that is gracious and beautiful — but also entered back into the hyper individual, or whatever this culture is, or this cultural energy is— that is so invasive to our most natural state of being, I really struggled. It’s good cause for depression, anxiety, and the inability to really focus and do the work. It’s so hard to be here, and not have what even just (for me at least) one or two generations ago had. And they had it because they needed to survive, but they had it because it was also their natural way of being: together.
We lost a lot, or forgot a lot in a such a short period of time.
I am from a collectivist culture. And places on thee lands take it seriously, still, it is still alive and well. I also experienced it in my life as a child. And slowly, as the elders died, it died with it. Or it was forgotten with them. Or Capitalism, the hungry beast that it is, ate away at us to a point where we could not longer extend past our own bodies, homes.
It’s dying in so many places. But also, it’s still alive and re-birthing. We still have it, woven in our memories. And my curiosity is how to express it here and now. Or whenever I am. How to express it’s re-birth. How to become it. How can we become radically for each other? How can we make new agreements to get involved in everyone’s business? How can we weave back the processions in the streets? How can we stop thinking we need so many boundaries, and instead lean into the village with agreements?
